Join DCVA summer intern Ben Mezei as he presents at Newtown Library on the various offerings of DCVA through a Biological lens.

"The presentation will aim to connect the experience I’ve gained through my major program as a biology student with a concentration in ecology and conservation at West Chester university to the DCVA’s plan to conserve and restore the Darby Creek Watershed. Seeing as I’m entering my fourth year at the university, I have learned a lot about the topics within the field and there are many things within that I have taken an interest in. The DCVA has a definitive plan to help achieve their future for the watershed, and I plan to take that plan and break it down into digestible pieces of information that not only connect to my experience within my major, but also highlights my interests and encapsulates who I am as a person wanting to get into the field. This will not be a highly informative scientific presentation and more of a “how I see things” and “why I

enjoy this” feel, but It will be seen through the lens of a college student who is in the

early stages of learning about the field."

Mushroom Walk & Talk with Beth Teigen from Philly Mycology Club

Come learn about the fungus among us in a guided walk with mushroom enthusiast and educator, Bethany Teigen. 

Bethany founded the Philadelphia Mycology Club in 2018 after finding some mushrooms coming up between the Philly cobblestones. Since then, the community of novice and experienced mycologists has grown to thrive in Greater Philadelphia. PMC works with many of the environmental education centers in Philadelphia to provide free and accessible mushroom guidance in an urban setting. The group hosts group hikes, workshops, and trash clean ups year round. Bethany also volunteers for Fungal Diversity Survey, a national non-profit dedicated to documenting and conserving the diverse macrofungi of North America. Her main interests are fungal biodiversity, community building, and environmental justice.

DCVA events are always free. Donations are appreciated to support our work to preserve and protect our watershed, but are not required.
